Bridget Murphy '01
Why did you choose to create a scholarship at SUNY Geneseo?
This scholarship was created after Bridget passed away at the very young age of 28. Bridget loved her time at Geneseo, working on the Lamron, as well as her participation in the Big Brother/Big Sister program. She made meaningful friendships at Geneseo and her friends continue to be close to our family. Knowing how important Geneseo was for Bridget it made sense to us to start a scholarship for a student that possessed the qualities and interests Bridget possessed.
What would you want the recipients of this scholarship to know about the person for whom it is named?
Bridget was many things: a loving daughter, sister and friend; a strong, quiet leader; compassionate for the rights of the defenseless; she loved children; and she believed we should never take ourselves too seriously.
What do you hope your recipients gain through this scholarship?
We hope this scholarship provides financial relief for the recipients and affords them the opportunity for intellectual and personal growth. Since the scholarship’s inception we have been honored to get to know the recipients and celebrate their successes.
