Sally Harrington
Why did you choose to create a scholarship at SUNY Geneseo?
This scholarship is in memory of Sally Harrington who worked as the secretary in the Sociology Department. Sally had a profound effect on the lives of everyone she met – faculty, staff and students. Sally lived with Cystic Fibrosis yet never let it slow her down. Cystic Fibrosis can be a debilitating, ugly illness but she fought through it valiantly and with optimism to the very end and made her mark in this world. Our hope is that through this scholarship, SUNY Geneseo students will be enabled to make their mark on this world as well.
What would you want the recipients of this scholarship to know about the person for whom it is named? What do you hope your recipients gain through this scholarship?
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that can cause a lifetime of illness. Despite being sick as a child and throughout her life, Sally never let her disease bring her down. She lived her life as if she had no limits and approached every aspect of her life with positivity. Her perseverance served as an example to others, and she held herself and others to the highest of standards. Her hard work, values and commitment to her family are all qualities that we hope recipients of this scholarship will emulate.
